The development of DISTRICT (TOWN TEAM) CRICKET across the county has been a priority of the Cricket Development Officers of the LCB. This type of representative cricket is important within the structure of excellence in the county. District Cricket has been played continuously for many years although the core number of Districts has been limited. There are now many more Districts being re-developed through the Cricket Development Groups and the amount of cricket at this level in 2006 is set to increase even further. This is good news for those involved in these developments.
LANCASHIRE SCHOOLS CRICKET ASSOCIATION will again be organising the Under 15 Ainsworth Trophy and Hacking Cup U13. These are 30 Over matches with the Finals being played at Old Trafford on September 2nd this year. In addition there is a Merit competition at each age group with MERIT CUP FINALS for the Districts who take the top two places in each age group Merit League. In 2006 the Lancashire Sports Partnership Group and the Merseyside Sports Partnership will have a programme of District Cricket at Under 11, Under 13 and Under 15 age groups.
